Malaysian Firms Tap into K-Pop Power by Jennifer Pak

The people of Malaysia include three major ethnic groups-Malay, Chinese, and Indian. These mostly separate people tended to stay in their own types of entertainment, types that include their language and religous belifs. This was the case before the introduction of Korean Pop, also known as K-Pop, which is a collection of music, movies, and soap operas from the Korean culture. This style of music is beginning to become more than just a trend however, as many people have been looking into studying the language of Korean to understand the meanings of the compositions. People of Malaysia say that it is quite unusual for multiple ethnic groups to be excited over the same thing since usually the groups stay put as individuals. This K-Pop sensation sweeping over Malaysia is beginning to unite the many cultures into one.
This newly discovered trend of music and movies in Malaysia is doing greatthings for this region, in my personal opinion. Ever since the settlement of the country, it has been largely divided over cultural and ethnical differences. However, the K-Pop fan base is making people look past their differences and find similarities within other groups. This is something very new to the people of the land as well as the people of the world. If the citizens of Malaysia live in the same area however, I feel it is best to be shared in some cultural aspects. K-Pop is only bettering the area in which it is taking root.
Music as well as other forms of art have always been embraced in the diverse country of Malaysia. From Chinese music to songs in the Bahasa Malay language, all types of culturally unique soundtracks have become part of the identity of this country. Korean Pop is now merely adding to this composition of cultures. The sounds of K-Pop, along with the music group's flashy clothes and dance moves, give the Malay people common ground to stand on. Music will always be a part of the cultural and ethnic melting pot of Malaysia, but now K-Pop is also becoming a huge factor.
