Five Largest Cities:
Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Kuantan, Seremban Population of Kuala Lumpur 1,660,423 Estimate Populations Using Rank-Size Rule Johor Bahru- 830,212 Ipoh- 553,475 Kuantan- 415,106 Seremban- 332,085 Actual Populations Johor Bahru- 449,685 Ipoh- 445,262 Kuantan- 360,586 Seremban- 322,232 In Malaysia, the rank-size rule is mostly accurate. The second most populated city has a large gap between its actual population and its estimate; it is almost double what it should be. However, all of the other cities are surprisingly close in comparison. This is strange because usually the less populated cities have a larger gap between estimates and real calculations. Malaysia seems to be backwards! Even though the second city is quite far off, I believe that Malaysia is a good representation of the rank-size rule. |
