Five Largest Cities:
Gaborone, Francistown, Molepolole, Mogoditshane, Maun Population of Gaborone 235,886 Estimate Populations Using Rank-Size Rule Francistown- 117,943 Molepolole- 78,629 Mogoditshane- 58,972 Maun- 47,178 Actual Populations Francistown- 100,079 Molepolole- 67,598 Mogoditshane- 57,637 Maun- 55,784 In Botswana, the rank-size rule is accurate. Although there are small gaps between all the cities and their estimates and actual populations, none of them are significantly large. These small gaps are acceptable because the estimates do not have to be exact. Since the estimates are very close in comparison, I believe the rank-size rule works quite well for this country. Botswana is a prime example of the rule at work. |
