Malaysia is considered to be in stage 3 of the DTM (Demographic Transition Model). The birth rate is very high, but is declining. The death rate is already very low, at 5 people per 1,000. The rate of natural icrease and the population both begin to slow as the years pass. A reason for the declining birth rate is that less children are needed due to technological advances. They are not necessary for the economy at this point. The low death rate could be the effect of new medical procedures and education, including a low percentage of AIDS/HIV victims due to awareness of the disease.
