Five Largest Cities:
Port-au-Prince, Carrefour, Delmas, Cap-Haitian, Gonaives Population of Port-au-Prince 703,023 Estimate Populations Using Rank-Size Rule Carrefour- 351,512 Delmas- 234,341 Cap-Haitian - 175,756 Gonaives- 140,605 Actual Populations Carrefour- 373,916 Delmas- 284,079 Cap-Haitian - 111,094 Gonaives- 104,825 In Haiti, the rank-size rule is not very accurate. The first city's estimate and actual populations are very close. However, the rest of the cities start to develope a gap between the real calculation and the rule's estimate. The large difference continues to grow once you get to less populated cities in Haiti. Although the rule works well for the second city, I believe it is not accurate. This is due to the continually growing gap between the two calculations for less-populated cities. |
